Don't Quit

 Don't Quit! This beautifully written poem by John Green leaf Wittier reminds us that not matter what, we have the strength inside us to overcome our problems and challenges life presents. Having chronic pain adds to our everyday challenges tenfold. Just getting out of bed can be like climbing a mountain! Be kind to yourself and recognise that your body will have different limits each day. I understand the frustration of not being able to get things done and becoming stressed because I'm not getting anywhere, then becoming ill because I'm getting stressed. It is a vicious circle. Be mindful of this and you will succeed in achieving all the things you want to. A few points that help me: * Sleep is as good as money in the bank, so try to get into a good sleeping pattern. If you can have nap during the day or close your eyes for 20min. * Keep your body as mobile as possible. Stretch your muscles gently. Getting stiff adds to pain. We see the surface façade of someone and believe them to be happier, healthier, richer, more successful, more beautiful and generally in a better place in life than we are. Most of the time, of course, this isn’t the truth. I’ve been just as guilty as anyone else of this. My perception was distorted by what I felt I was lacking in my own life and being chronically ill. Have you noticed that when something really positive or successful happens in our own lives it seems to empower us and at those times, we don’t see anything lacking when we look at others. So how do we keep that positive energy going? The solution that I have found is to be thankful for everything that I have, no matter how big or small. Sound a bit weak?
